Today I want to talk about how you can afford to stay at one of the top Disney World hotels: the Contemporary Resort. The Contemporary Resort has a lot of features that make some consider it one of the very best Disney World hotels. But for those reasons, it is also one of the most expensive Disney hotels. So we’re going to talk about how you can afford a stay at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. I will share with you some tried and tested hacks my family uses to save hundreds of dollars.
But before I get into the hacks, I want to mention why the Contemporary Resort is so great. The most unique aspect of the hotel is that the monorail literally runs right through the hotel. This means you could literally walk out of your room and see the monorail zip by. You can take this monorail to Magic Kingdom. Or you could take it to the ticket & transportation center, where you can then take a monorail to EPCOT.
The Contemporary Resort is also close enough to Magic Kingdom that you can actually walk to the Magic Kingdom.
Other great features of the Contemporary Resort include:
- Spacious guest rooms
- Lots of dining options, including a character breakfast
- A pool with a waterslide
- And more!
So now that you know you would like to stay at Contemporary, the question is, how can you afford a stay here?
Staying at Bay Lake Tower
The cheapest way to stay at the Contemporary Resort is to actually not stay in the main building itself, but to stay in the building next door, Bay Lake Tower.
This means you do not get to see the monorail whiz by when you leave your room in the morning. If that is a dealbreaker for you, you can skip to the next money saving tip.
But staying here still gives you a lot of the same perks as staying in the main building of Contemporary, such as the pool and dining options. And one extra perk of staying in Bay Lake Tower versus the main building? It’s a shorter walk to the Magic Kingdom!

Now, Bay Lake Tower is technically a Disney Vacation Club building. But the good news is that you don’t have to be a Disney Vacation Club member to stay there. We know a really good hack of how non-members can stay there at cheaper prices. I use this hack all the time to get cheaper stays. I have stayed multiple times at Bay Lake Tower and paid less than I would to stay at a Disney moderate hotel (and in some cases, a Disney value hotel!). We go over this Disney hotel hack here.
Other Ways to Save Money
But let’s say you really want to stay in the main building. There are a few websites that I’ve used to get me cheaper stays. I have paid less than when I have booked on Disney, even using my passholder discount!
- Priceline: My family has used Priceline quite a lot recently and it’s saved us a ton of money. You can get a lot of Disney hotels at a discounted price through Priceline, including Contemporary stays here.
- Undercover Tourist: Undercover Tourist is another website that’s saved my family a lot of money through the years. An added bonus of booking through Undercover Tourist is that you can also book your Disney World park tickets through Undercover Tourist. Booking them together can save you more money.
- Kayak: If I still don’t see a rate I like, I will look for Contemporary rates through Kayak. Kayak compares multiple websites, so it’s a quick way to find out if there are sale on some of the other booking sites.
