The Polish Constitution Day Parade will be happening on Saturday, May 3, 2025. The Polish American community in Chicago comes together on the first Saturday in May to celebrate the history, patriotism, culture and heritage of Poland. The event is also to remember that Poland enacted a democratic constitution, second only to the constitution of the United States. It was the first democratic constitution in Europe.
Polish History in Chicago
Per lovePoland, Poles have lived in the United States since 1608. Currently, there are approximately 10 million people of Polish descent in this country. This makes it the largest diaspora of Poles in the world.
In the 1850s, large numbers of Polish immigrants settled in Chicago, per Choose Chicago. Many moved to the west side of the city in an area that gradually became known as “Old Polonia.” The heart of this area was the “Polish Triangle” where Milwaukee, Ashland and Division Avenue intersect.
Per the Polish American Association, nearly ⅓ of all Polish immigrants in the United States live in the Chicago area. Polish immigrants have preserved their culture, language and religious traditions.
