As someone who grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina, I thought it looked fun from the first time I saw it. But I didn’t think it was something you could do in Charlotte. After all, Charlotte has no mountains and it doesn’t get that cold here. I thought you’d have to at least head to say Boone.
But that’s actually not the case. Just 32 miles west of Charlotte over in Gaston County is Crowders Mountain State Park. And Crowders Ridge Camp & Retreat Center in Gastonia, North Carolina is a great place to go if you want to try winter tubing!
Crowders Ridge Camp offers snowless tubing. They don’t bother with fake snow or anything (which can honestly be a lot less messy). But what you do get is 200-foot lanes of high-adrenaline tubing.
You can book a one-hour session and snow tube over and over. They have a Towpro, meaning that you won’t have to carry your own tube up the hill. You’ll get a tube at the top of the hill.
This can make for a really fun activity to do right now during Christmas break for Charlotte families (or any family visiting Charlotte). Or it’s fun to do after that!
